Construction

All SX Surfboards are applied with extra layers of fiberglass cloth to provide the high strength, so the lighter weight EPS core can be used to reduce the weight of the board. This is the reason why SX SUPs are strong and light weighted. 12oz fiberglass on the deck and 12oz fiberglass on the bottom is much higher than the average of the market. Solid wood stringer also provide more strength than laminated wood stringer. All the materials are top grade, which makes the boards are more durable than other brands.
Shape

Fish boards have comparable width and thickness to long boards or mini-mal, which makes it a lot easier to catch small, mushy waves than short boards. The more pointing nose and curvy rail helps surfers to maneuver better than the big boards. This great combination gives fish boards advantage for those who wants to downsize your mini-mal and make progress in surfing. Even when you are a skilled surfer, this fish board can help you to catch more waves when the waves are not ideal. The tail shape allows for a much wider tail and larger surface area, making it easier to maintain speeds in softer parts of the wave and generate paddling power. The extra volume in the nose helps with catching waves and balancing while surf. The more rounded the nose, the more surface area of the board on the water. This means the board will be more stable and less maneuverable. This fish board combines the best of both worlds (being stable and maneuverable), by having a slight point on a wide nose.
Rail

40/60 full soft rail
Full soft rail is applied to SX fish boards, which means this board is more stable, easier to catch waves and better in maintaining speed. Fuller rails are harder to sink, so they have more potential for leverage. Soft rails provide a smoother, more forgiving response. the water tends to bend around their subtle curve rather than breaking away. You are less likely to catch an edge and bog the rails into on sloppier wave face.
Rocker

Low rocker
Rocker is one of the most important criteria to determine the performance of a surfboard. Rocker of this fish board is designed to be low, so the water can move quickly under the bottom of the board. More surface area on top of the water allows the rider to generate more speed when paddling and surfing.
Bottom Contour

Single to double concave
The bottom contour of this fish board is single concave to double concave. The single concave starts from the middle of the board, contains water flow through the length of the board rather than allowing the water to release from the rails. It helps to produce lift and speed while you are up on your feet and riding the wave. It will also help to set your rail into the face of the wave. This gives you both control and lift, keeping you on top of the wave while surfing. The double concave starting in front of the fins, helps redirect the flow of water under your tail and around your fins, also helping to create lift under your back foot.
Choose the right board
Skill level
If you are a beginner, a fish board may not be the best choice of your first board. We would recommend a mal or mini mal for people learning surfing because a fish board is less stable.
This board will be a great choice for surfers with intermediate skill level, it’s a great transition from a mal or mini-mal. You’ll still have the paddle power of your longboard, but now you’ll be able to incorporate a wider range of movements. This fish board is also perfect for skilled surfers who want an easier shot at having fun on days where the surf may be too slow and mushy for their shortboard.
Wave condition
The waves are not always good. If you’re looking to still have a fast, fun in mushy surf, then this fish board will be the perfect addition to your board rack. If the waves are 6 feet plus, A fish is probably not the board you’re looking for. You risk pearling upon take off because of the low rocker.
