Construction

All SX SUPs are applied with extra layers of fiberglass cloth to provide the strength, so the lighter weight EPS core can be used to reduce the weight of the board. This is the reason why SX SUPs are strong and light weight. 16oz fiberglass on the deck and 12oz fiberglass on the bottom is much higher than the average of the market. Solid wood stringer also provide more strength than laminated wood stringer. All the materials are top grade, which makes the board is more durable than other brands.
Choose the right size
How much weight can a SUP board carry? Actually we can use Archimedes’ principle to calculate. The buoyancy of a object with volume V equals to:
![]()
Take our 10′ board as an example, which is 166L. The maximum buoyancy it provides ( when the board is fully in the water) is:

This much buoyancy carries the weight of the paddler and the weight of the paddle board which is 11kg.

We can get: The maximum weight it carries is 155 kgs. Theoretically, 1 litter can carry approximately 1kg weight.
However, this is based on the board is fully into the water. While when we choose a SUP, we can’t choose it by the maximum carrying weight. especially for those haven’t started paddling for long.
If you just start paddling, at least half of the board should be above the water.

For beginner to intermediate level paddlers
The more volume the higher the board will float in the water, the less drag it will have, and the easier it will be to paddle. Less volume boards on the other hand, will bring you maneuverability. This is the reason why the surf SUPs have less volume than all rounders.
Now we know that 1kg is approximately equals to 1 liter, so if you want at least half of your board be sitting on the water, you need to choose a board that has a volume twice as much as your weight. The following chart is our recommendation when you choose a SUP board:
